Privacy Policy

Short version: Skipper sends no data to us. The app talks to your Apple TV over your home network. The only internet request it makes is to load cover art for what is playing (see below). It has no account, no analytics and no Skipper server.

What the app connects to

Skipper connects to Apple TVs on your local network. It finds them with Bonjour, the same way AirPlay finds devices. iOS asks you to allow local network access the first time you open Skipper. The app needs this to find and control your Apple TV.

Cover art. When you turn on Show what's playing, your Apple TV tells Skipper what is playing. Sometimes it sends the cover art itself. Sometimes it sends a web address for the art instead. Then your iPhone loads the image from that address, which is usually the streaming service's server. Like any web request, that server sees your iPhone's IP address and the standard headers iOS adds, such as your language. As a browser does, iOS may keep a cookie that the server sets and send it back with the next image request from Skipper. Skipper adds nothing else about you.

What the app keeps on your iPhone

DataWhere it is keptWhy
Pairing keys for your Apple TV (one for the remote, one for Show what's playing)The iOS Keychain on your iPhoneSo you only enter each PIN once
The name of the Apple TV you choseApp storage on your iPhoneTo connect to the same TV next time
Your buttons, button sets and recent skipsApp storage on your iPhoneTo show your buttons
History of the commands sent to the TV: date, TV name, app, the title that was playing, and the position before and after (up to 10,000 entries)App storage on your iPhoneFor the History screen, and to learn ad break lengths

None of this leaves your iPhone, with two exceptions. The app sends commands to your Apple TV to pair and to skip. And you can export your history as a JSON or CSV file from the History screen, through the iOS share sheet. Where that file goes is your choice.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app deletes your buttons, history and settings. Your pairing keys stay in the iOS Keychain until you choose Forget this TV in the app's menu. Use Forget this TV before you delete the app to remove them.

What we do not do

This website

skipperremote.com uses no analytics or third-party scripts, and our pages set no cookies. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which receives each request, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy. Our web server keeps standard access logs (the address that connected, time and page requested) for security and troubleshooting. The server deletes these logs after 14 days.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Skipper collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
